Being lead by our kaitiaki - Tukaiaia  te mauri o Ngātiwai  in form of a bird that was designed by Tohunga whaikairo - Te Warahi Hetaraka adopted in 2009 for Whangaruru School with the symbolism of balance, protection, communication and freedom.

As we evolve and transform into 2024 He PUNA RUKU MĀTAURANGA O WHANGARURU to complement our Tukaiaia with a new Tohu to symbolise our journey as Kura a iwi designed by Steven Taua - mokopuna of Houpeke and Mere Piripi to koha to our kura ( whakapapa to be added)

Tukaiaia te mauri o Ngātiwai Ngātiwai ki uta, Ngātiwai ki tai, Ngātiwai ki te hoe - With the protection of our tupuna and whānau, to communicate and strive for excellence by growing, uplifting, and thriving in all domains symbolising new beginnings, enhancing our tukuihotanga, mātauranga, oranga and mana motuhake.

Ngā parirau o Tukaiaia are out stretched and balanced and encapsulating all our whānau to embrace all with whānaungatanga and kaitiakitanga.

The four koru representing ngā hau e wha symbolizing our learning journey has many pathway with rich practices that are creative and diverse - upholding the mana of our tupuna, tukuihotanga and strong connections with our taiao - mana moana, mana whenua, mana ngahere, mana awa - mana motuhake .  The Niho on each koru represents the strength and stability of our whānau, hapu iwi and to strive for excellence our kete o te mātauranga will be filled
